St. Luke’s Hospital in Jacksonville, FL. St. Luke's Hospital is a non-profit, non-denominational hospital located east of Interstate 95 at the intersection of J. Turner Butler Boulevard and Belfort Road. Mayo Clinic is approximately 10 miles away, and St. Luke’s is in the main admitting hospital for the clinic. The hospital has 289 private rooms, and as Florida's first private hospital, it’s been a pioneer in patient care for more than 125 years. Founded by three Jacksonville women in 1873, St. Luke’s began as a two-room cottage with four beds and a budget of less than $1,000. After its second building was burned by an arsonist in 1876, St. Luke's moved in 1878 to Palmetto Street in downtown Jacksonville. It grew quickly and moved to its fourth location, Boulevard and Eighth Street, just north of downtown in 1914. The hospital moved to its current location in the booming Southpoint area in 1984.  [Top]
